Biography

Benjamin is a first year graduate student studying the American Civil War in the West under Dr. Robert Gudmestad. Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, Benjamin received a dual BA in History and English as well as a certification in “Artificial Intelligence and Society” from Penn State University. He was also a writing tutor for two years at Penn State, and an intern and volunteer at the Hagen History Center back in Erie. His proudest achievement was being able to present his research project, an analysis and reexamination of the Bloody Island Massacre of 1850, at the Sigma-Xi Undergraduate Research Conference.

Outside of academics, Benjamin’s hobbies include reading, writing, hiking, video gaming, and studying other fields of history. Currently, he has a budding interest in Japanese history, specifically around the 1860s. Additionally, he has a fondness for cows thanks to living on a cattle farm for 23 years of his life.
