“Drunk & Disorderly: History and Beer”

What was life like for the men who fought aboard the Union Navy’s Mississippi Squadron during the Civil War?

CSU Department of History Chair and Professor Robert Gudmestad will present at Odell Brewing in Fort Collins on Friday, October 9, 6:30-8:30pm and explore the unruly world of Civil War sailors—known for heavy drinking, fighting, and defiance—and how the Navy transformed them into an effective fighting force.

Based on Gudmestad’s award-winning book, The Devil’s Own Purgatory, the first complete history of the Union Navy’s Mississippi Squadron.
