Internships and Practicums provide opportunities for CSU’s graduate students to use historical knowledge to solve real-world problems. The Department of History has strong connections with Rocky Mountain National Park and the Public Lands History Center and a number of students have completed internships with these organizations.
Our graduate students have completed practical and valuable internships. Recent projects include creating school programs for the History Colorado Center, coordinating the digitization of records for the McMurdo Dry Valleys Photo Collection, creating finding aids for materials at Yellowstone National Park, providing daily care for the Victorian home at the Grant-Kohrs National Historic Site, assisting with the research, planning, and installation of exhibits at the Global Village Museum, preparing materials for local landmark designations for the city of Fort Collins, creating a finding aid for U.S. Forest Service documents at the Center of Southwest Studies, revising collection information at the Loveland Museum and Gallery, researching Native American primary sources for the Scott's Bluff National Monument project, and inventorying materials at the Avenir Musuem of Design and Merchandising.
Work-oriented instruction involving the implementation of classroom experience under the direct supervision of a faculty member. After the practicum is completed, a short written report must be submitted describing project activities. Once the report has been submitted and approved, the student will receive a grade.
