The Department of History has eleven Graduate Teaching Assistantships to offer each year, so the majority of our incoming students receive financial assistance. GTAs receive a full tuition waver for four semesters, a monthly stipend, and health care benefits. All admitted students are automatically considered for a GTA position.
Each semester, GTAs are assigned to professors teaching 100 level History classes. A GTA attends class, holds regular office hours, answers students’ questions, and grades assignments. Some GTAs will also lead discussions and deliver a lecture to the class. GTAs typically grade for a different instructor each semester, so they gain valuable insight into different teaching methods.
