Biography

I am a service-oriented scholar with interests in community development and the democratization of knowledge. My thesis examines the dynamics of Hispanic religious identity in Northern Colorado, especially in relation to community development and maintenance. I want to dedicate my career to communicating across difference and fostering collaboration.

I serve as a graduate student assistant for introductory courses in American History, including HIST150 and HIST151. I am happy to support, mentor, and connect with undergraduate students within and outside of the Department of History.

I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Museo de las Tres Colonias in Fort Collins as their Liaison to CSU. In this role, I participate in event planning and hosting, participating in annual engagements like the Fort Collins Historic Homes Tour. Within this role, I will also support programming for CSU's El Centro during 2025. I am happy to connect with members of the local community.

During the 2024-25 academic year, I also participate in the History Matters project as a community partner and graduate student researcher. The project is an ongoing collaboration with Poudre School District teachers that helps bring local, culturally responsive primary sources into their curriculum. I am happy to connect with local educators.

During the 2024 CSU Graduate Showcase, I won a Global Impact Award from the Office of International Programs for a project that overviewed the emerging field of foodscape studies and the application of oral histories therein, especially in terms of democratizing knowledge.

To contact me, please reach out via email and we can set up an in-person or digital meeting.

First Generation Story

I am a first-generation college student, graduate and American. My family migrated from Michoacan, Mexico, and I was born in Northeast Colorado. I got to experience both the rural and urban sides of Northern Colorado. I graduated high school in Commerce City and I take great pride in my roots. While navigating upward social mobility, I have built several kinds of soft skills including resilience, patience, and self-reflection. I am grateful for all the resources that aided me in my success, including CSU's Community for Excellence, Rams Against Hunger, and Student Case Management, as well as the Food Bank for Larimer County and the LuMin Student Housing Security Initiative. I intend to support those who come after me as much as I can. There is no shame in asking for help or relying on the resources set up for our success as students and human beings.
