Three history faculty – Robert Jordan, Jared Orsi, and Sarah Payne – won teaching awards this Spring. At the national level, Robert Jordan won the Edwin Lieuwen Award for the Promotion of Excellence in the Teaching of Latin American Studies from the Rocky Mountain Council for Latin American Studies. This is a highly competitive award from the premier regional association of Latin Americanists in the U.S.

 

At CSU, Robert Jordan and Jared Orsi both received Ann Gill Excellence in Teaching Awards. This is a prestigious award in CSU’s College of Liberal Arts. It was created to recognize faculty members who are instrumental in students becoming life-long learners, critical and creative thinkers, and outstanding communicators and performers, and engaged and caring citizens of their various communities.

 

Jordan and Orsi both use innovative digital resources in the classroom. They help students develop large-scale projects to do everything from explore political history to solve real-world problems. Students value Robert Jordan’s engaging approach to classroom and mentoring interactions.  And colleagues praise Jared Orsi’s motivation to make each class a collaborative intellectual community.

 

 

 

In the History Department, Sarah Payne received the Phi Alpha Theta/History Club Outstanding Professor Award. Payne received multiple student nominations that highlighted her high academic standards, emphasis on practical skills related to Public History, and her graciousness in serving on many graduate student committees.
